First day in Cuba, when we managed to explore some of the real, non-touristy places and also nearly got fried as it was the sunniest and the hottest day so far. We did feel a bit like vampires running from one piece of shade to the other and moaning when the sun got us.
In the morning we found a supermarket, which really wasn’t that easy and also changed some money into moneda nacional, Cuban pesos, used normally by the locals.
In the afternoon we walked towards the part of the city called Vedado through some real Cuban barrios on the way, which surprisingly were almost hassling free. Saw some very nice looking restaurant with main meals ranging from 0.4 to 1$, for those planning to be in Havana it is located on the corner of Cazada de Infanta and Salvador Allende. On the opposite corner they were selling churros for 3 pesos each, which is practically nothing when transferred into euros. Then we continued to the Plaza de Revolucion to take some sunny pictures with the beloved Che.
After taking a few random turns from Plaza de Revolucion we found ourselves walking through residential streets of Vedado filled with beautiful though run down buildings. Just as we were dying for a drink we noticed a very nice renovated building with friendly letters saying Madrigal cafe bar. This looked extremely attractive but turned out that it was only to open in half hour. We patiently waited outside, and I tell you, we did not regret it one bit. The place was absolutely stunning, with beautiful art work everywhere, best cocktails I have ever tasted and really nice snacks! An absolute gem! We liked it that much, so we decided to come back for some evening drinks with the guys we met earlier in our casa and got happily drunk on mojitos :)
