About

Alex and Victoria originally met at a student party in Ingolstadt, Germany where Alex was working at Audi and Victoria was doing her MBA at the Fachhochschule. After a few drinks, a dance to the dirty dancing sound track and some smooth talking on Alex’s behalf, they started dating.

After finishing a year at Audi, Alex returned to the UK to finish his final year studies at Bournemouth University. During this time, Victoria started a internship at Siemens VDO in Regensburg, Germany. The time apart was a bit tough for them, but they held it together with Skype and visits to Germany and the UK.

A year later, Alex had finished his exams and walked away with with a Bachelor of Engineering 2nd class honors degree in Applied Computing and Electronics. Meanwhile in Germany, Victoria was working on her 2nd Masters degree, an MBA in Project Management after completing her 1st Masters in Economics while in Russia (as if one was not enough!).

At this point Victoria had gone back to Russia for a month and Alex was wondering how and where they could be together and where? The easiest place was Germany as Victoria still had a 1 year visa after her studies were complete to find a job there. Alex called his friend Armin that he met at Audi while having a smoke, who just happened to have his own electronic engineering company called Weiteck based in Bad Soden-Salmünster, Germany. It was perfect. Alex quickly found a job with him, grabbed his mum’s car, drove to Germany. Victoria arrived a month later from Russia to start work at Dell in Frankfurt.

After 4 years of working at Weiteck and experiencing the company liquidising, 1 year at Interactive Data in Frankfurt and a desire to leave the modern world and travel, they decided to save up and jump on a flight to Central America.

The journey began on 1st October 2012 in Havana, Cuba. A month later they had a flight booked from Havana to Santiago de Chile. From there, they planned around the weather by following the sun and arriving in the Chilean Patagonia in December as the hottest months in the southern hemisphere are January-February.

The plan was to reach Ushuaia in Argentina, which is widely acknowledged as the end of the world. Then, travel north through Argentina and the east coast. After that the plans were unknown. All they knew was that they had to get to San Jose in Costa Rica by the 26th September 2013 for a return flight back to Frankfurt, but how will they get there? We will have to see. Welcome to their awesome adventure through Central and South America!
