Today we woke up to another amazing breakfast prepared by no other than the man of the house, Chocolate. Fresh fruit, scrambled eggs, sandwiches, cuban coffee and freshly pressed pineapple juice. Again, more than enough for breakfast and a bite for lunch.

We took the bikes again and followed the same route through La Boca and along the coast on the old road all the way to the end of the peninsula (15km from Trinidad) where a huge hotel called Ancón is located. A tribute to the soviet influences in architectural style. It is considered a premium location in Cuba, but we had a look at the beach and it seemed quite boring compared to where we were yesterday. It was monotonous and for those package holiday brochures, not for us.

Next stop was a restaurante with a very nice beach before it. We chilled there for a few hours drinking and eating coconuts, doing some diving around the corals and playing bowls with stones from the beach. Perfect after a bike ride in the blazing sun.

Later we went back to the beach where we met Eduardo who was already slow cooking our fish on a fire in the rocks nearby. By now it was approching sunset and the sand flees started appearing and biting us all over. Really irritating! However, the fish tasted amazing and it was kept moist by putting thick leaves on top while cooking. Five fish we shared in total. One of them, a special catch, that I cant remember the name of, but was exceptionally good.

We hung around the beach a bit and I took some pictures of the beautiful sunset while Victoria was having a swim. After the sun had set, we jumped on the bikes and started riding back to the casa where we saw an amazing orange / pinky sky and a big crab crossing the road. The journey back was a mission to say the least, as are bellies were full and Trinidad was uphill from the beach. We were dripping in sweat and pretty exhausted by the time we got back so a cold shower was highly appreciated!

16th October Trinidad, Cuba

The breakfast in the place is worth mentioning, I don’t think I ever had so many things for breakfast! There were freshly pressed pineapple juice, coffee, omelette, fresh fruits, pizza :) and some sandwiches, enough for us to take food for lunch and be staffed! After the fist we rented bicycles for 3 CUC (€2.50) per bike per day and headed south-east of Trinidad through a village called La Boca down to the sea. It took us about 30-40 min to get to an amazing spot by the sea. The pictures will say everything! We were on the beach alone, except for the guy who is looking after it. The water was crystal clear and the corals were just a few meters away from the beach. We snorkeled and sunbathed for the whole day.

Around 4 pm we decided to continue to our initial destination which was hotel Ancon, built by

the friendly Russian communists ;) When we got to the bikes a nasty surprise was waiting for us… my tire was completely flat as I managed to run over some metal thing. The guy looking after the beach was extremely helpful and offered to walk us to the nearest village, where he lives, to fix the tire. Unfortunately the nearest village was about 4 km away and the sun was blazing hot. We had a really nice talk with Eduardo on the way but the walk was truly exhausting. The great thing was he actually managed to fix our tire for free! We agreed that the following day we are going to meet again on the beach and he is going to cook some nice fresh fish for us.

When we got back we were so tired, we didn’t have enough will power to resist an offer of home-cooked meal from our hosts. This time we made sure that they only make one portion for us to share, so we would still be able to go out for a bit and see a bit of night life in Trinidad, well evening life really as we were once again too tired to stay out late. Believe me, the portion for one was really enough to feed the two of us, and we were hungry!

After dinner we headed out to casa de la musica which was not actually in the house but on one of the squares. The location was nice and music as well the only unpleasant thing was that they tried to cheat us once again ;) but this time we caught them in time! Getting more professional :)

After a nice breakfast we packed our stuff and set off for the bus station. We walked down to the main street and caught a horse carriage from there which only cost us 2 pesos cubanos. Very good deal!

We got the tickets and waited for the Viazul bus to pick us up. The bus experience was overall quite good apart from the fact that the journey took forever and we had to change busses on the way as the first one had a puncher.

We arrived in Trinidad around 4 pm. Just managed to avoid a crowd of jineteros on the way out of the bus station. Lots of desperate house owners and jineteros in Trinidad. With more than 300 casas the competition is crazy. We decided to stay in the casa, recommended to us by two English girls we met in Santa Clara, casa Chocolate :). It was really easy to find, only took us about 10 minutes from the bus stop.

The place was quite shabby, but people were great and the views from roof terrace and two balconies were amazing. Not to mention the price was great as well, 15 CUC including breakfast. Dinner was also offered at a reasonable price of 10 CUC for both. We were not too sure at first whether to take it or not but the fact that the house owner is a chef at one of the hotels resolved our doubts.

After settling in we decided to take a look around town and grab some lunch. Found a great place where they served some surf and turf pizza with everything imaginable, was good though. Our walk didn’t last for very long as we were caught by a downpour and had to make a quick escape back to the casa and giant dinner which waited for us there! Honestly the portions would have been enough for a family of 4. Crazy! After that we couldn’t even walk, so the only choice left was to watch the sunset and sleep and so we did. Granny couple once again in bed before 11 :) haha
